Halloween 2021 fell on a Sunday this year. There were more people out and had more excitement on the street than 2020 yet at the same time it did not feel as festive internally. This year our house decorations outside were more Halloween-ish thanks to the girls great job decorating, the girls costumes were fantastic, we stepped up our candy game by getting big candy bars to pass out in addition to the good candy, we did all the Halloween things to make it a great trick-or-treat day and on the outside it looked good. Maybe it was just everything going on with us or the kids getting older but it felt more like going through motions and not savoring the moment.
Our little family spent the morning watching Christmas Hallmark movies. Lisa prepped for the evening and took our kitchen table to a man who was going to fix it. This year we planned to all go over to hang out at the Rhoads for lunch to see family too. However, when we returned home Chris said he had finally gotten into a good spot with no pain after a long night so he fell asleep. Lisa, Leia and Ivy got to go see Mimi, Stacy, Mark and Sara. We missed both Katie and Chris though. Katie was at a friends house and Chris was too tired. Lunch was yummy and we were thankful for the fellowship. Yet mentally Lisa was pre-occupied so not fully enjoying the moments and Leia escaped into a show. Thankful for the time with family and them loving on us even when we are in a blah state. Lisa and Leia headed home soon after eating to go see Chris. Wes was here visiting him. Mimi came shortly afterwards to bring Ivy home, visit a little more, and see the girls dressed up.
Last year we invited the Sipes over for dinner and trick-or-treat so decided to do it again this year since they helped make 2020 Halloween sweeter. Mimi headed home when they arrived despite us telling her she could stay. The kids were adorable and immediately started playing and laughing. The adults enjoyed soup on the back porch while the kids ate pizza inside. The rest of the neighbors with littles came to meet up to trick or treat together close to six o’clock. It was a good group, maybe a little more chaotic than mentally prepared. Chris stayed home as he said he could not walk with the back pain. After two houses Leia said she was ready to go home to pass out candy; Lisa wanted to join her but Ivy said she was not ready. Thankful Will and Jade said she could continue with them so Lisa went with Leia. It was sweet time sitting on the porch talking while she passed out the candy. Hoping next Halloween and the next holiday feels more festive to momma and daddy than this one. Thankful, both our girls said they had a Happy Halloween and hope they remember the fun memories their whole life.
