Colorful Animal Class at the Zoo

Leia and several of her friends have started going to classes at the zoo to introduce them to different animals. The classes are great! There is a short presentation introducing the kids to different animals then it is hands on time so everyone can have a chance to touch the animals. I am learning quite a bit too. On our first trip Leia would not touch anything. She would sink into mommy’s lap or back away as the animals got close. That was the cuddly animal class. However, this week was the colorful animal class and Leia did a great job painting, seemed to enjoying touching the animals, and enjoyed walking around the zoo. It is comical, she would not touch the cute hedgehog (my favorite so far) or the soft little ones last time but this time she had no issues petting a lizard or snake (nor am I sure how those are considered colorful; I’m assuming it is because their tongues are bright). Nonetheless, it was a great class this week and the kids even got to walk around the zoo afterwards to pet other animals and feed some fish.

After the class several of us decided to continue the zoo adventure and go feed the flamingos and walk around the zoo a little longer. Leia’s friends Annie and Kellum did great feeding the flamingos but Leia would not stick her hand out there to let them eat from her hand. Personally, I do not recall ever feeding them myself before that day. Luckily, Crystal was there and told me how to do it. Leia enjoyed the birds coming over so mommy fed the birds with the rest of the gang and Leia sat in amazement of the tall birds coming to visit her. We continued walking around looking at other animals after the flamingos finished eating until it was time for lunch time. What a wonderful day we had with good friends and great weather to enjoy some of God’s creation.
