San Francisco 2016 Family Trip

We decided to take a family trip to San Francisco and tack onto Chris’s business trip there. Ivy has been saying she wants to go to California so it was a perfect opportunity to go for her 5 year old birthday trip and a last hooray before school gets back into session. Thursday was a LONG travel day for us we spent from 2:00 to 10:15 cst traveling. The girls were awesome troopers. Ivy was super excited to be going to CA for her birthday trip. She sang or talked almost G&E whole time in the plane. Made me smile listening to her makeup songs like “It’s a perfect day, look how high we can fly from up in the sky riding in the airplane ….”; God I pray they never lose their sense of wonder and awe; so thankful to get to experience life thru their eyes.

Friday, we woke up bright and early. Lisa convinced Leia we should rest little longer since only 4:20 local time. We ventured out to tour the hotel by 7 and got girls a snack and coffee for moms and daddy. After we planned our day we headed to Hollywood Cafe for breakfast. It was great! The fruit bowl was amazingly beautiful and delicious. After filling our bellies we made our way to Muir Woods to explore the beautiful, big, old trees and nature Hod has blessed us to experience. Leia was interested in reading all the plaques soaking in the knowledge they provided but after a quarter or half mile both girls just wanted to get back to the bus to head down since they were tired from all the walking. Both little princesses did fall asleep on the ride back. We stopped off for a burger at Napa Valley Burger to fill our bellies with energy before walking around Sausalito a little bit and heading back to the hotel for a little down time. Girls got to swim while moms made sure we had a game plan for the rest of the trip then they got a hot bath to warm up before we explored near the hotel. We ended up at Ghirardelli Chocolate for evening treats before walking to the bay and girls stepping in the sand on the west coast for the first time. It was getting late and chilly so we decided to call it a night.
Our first picture in San Francisco and waiting in line for and amazing breakfast.

Saturday, we decided would be our Fisherman Wharf day.  We started the day at Boudin Bakery. Girls enjoyed picking out their treat from the wide selection, looking at the different things made out of bread, and watching bread baskets move in the tracks above our heads. We began exploring pair 39 starting with the sea lions since girls have been into creatures. Some of the sea lions were having fun playing pushing each other off pier while others were resting in the sun. We spent 30 minutes just watching before girls were ready to go to next stop. Girls requested to shop as we started walking so we ventured in any store that sparked their interest. Chris hopped on the double decker carousal with the girls on the spinner; so glad it was him instead of mommy getting motion sick on it. Aquarium at the Bay was next on our list. We all enjoyed seeing tons of wild life as we walked thru two aquarium tunnels, got lucky to hit it at right time to see divers feed the sharks, felt how different sea creatures felt in the hands on portion, and shopped in the gift shop (daddy is in trouble cause his little princesses like to shop). By the time we got out of the aquarium it was time for lunch at Fog Harbor Fish House for yummy sea food. This is where Chris informed us San Francisco is known for sour dough bread. We utilized our city passes by riding a bus to the Exploatorium after lunch. It was packed when we got there. Thankful we didn’t have to wait in the really long line since we’d bought the city pass tickets; they paid off twice. We went one on one there to let both girls do what thru wanted too. Lots of fun and educational, great combination. After a few hours girls asked if we could go back to room for little bit so we went back and they got movie time on daddy’s computer before we decided to order dinner in to eat next to the fire-pit and pool. Great low key evening at the hotel.

After calling it a early night Saturday evening on Sunday girls were awake early but we lounged on the beds till close to 8:00.  We opted to go back to Hollywood Cafe for the amazing fruit, eggs, and girls pancakes before heading to Academy of Science, a planetarium, aquarium, and natural history museum. However, we got there an hour early so hung out at the fountains in Golden Gate Park then watched the Golden Gate Park Band warm up for a afternoon show. Once we were into the Academy we traveled thru the rainforest. Girls of course loved the butterflies then took the elevator to the coral reef to see the aquatic life. After those two exhibits the girls needed to decompress and have some kid fun so we headed to Early Explorers Cove which was significantly less crowded and gave the girls time to have free play on a ship, tree, use their imagination with Legos, and play with puzzles. Next stop was a show in the planetarium. Both little ones had a nice nap during the movie and was hungry afterwards so we went to “I Love Jenny’s Burger” for mouth watering burgers they everyone finished before we headed to the Golden Gate Park children corner. There was a great playground the girls had a blast on and a carousal they rode with Chris. We rode back to the hotel for a few minutes before we went on a boat ride I the bat under the Golden Gate Bridge and around alcatrez and angel islands. Before heading back to the hotel we stopped off for seafood at Eagle Cafe. What a great day.

Monday, Chris had to be on conference calls and start working at 7:00. Lisa and girls were out early to go ride a famous San Francisco cable car. We waited so we could ride in the front. We all took turns standing as we rode. Fun experience with the girls. We grab a quick breakfast afterwards then headed to the Bay Area Kids Museum for a little fun; added bonus our McWane membership got us in with no charge. Upon arriving the girls were not impressed since it’s a village of buildings and part of the activities were outside but it didn’t cost anything so we were going to try it out. Soon after entering though the girls were having a blast playing music, building designs in the Imagination Playground, and playing in lookout cove with caves, boats and hiking trails; these three were their favorites and happened to be outside. We did venture into a few of the indoor area to explore and see if they wanted to do any of the crafts but girls preferred the outdoor activities with the beautiful, nice weather. A nice surprise was the traveling tree house exhibit that we loved from McWane what the girls were able to play on for a little bit. The girls were going strong and still wanting to play after four hours but mommy was ready to call it a day at the museum, too much fun. We called a car to get us and take us back across the bridge to the city to our hotel to go swimming, mommy had to get in to convince girls to leave.
