Leia

A defining moment of change

This post/letter is mainly met for my girls.  Lisa, Leia, and Sierra.  Some of you have only known the huge Chris while some of you have known a slightly slimmer but still huge Chris.  Today, I want to begin taking the word huge or big from in front of my name.

My nickname growing up, at least within the family, was Big C.  For a time it was due to being 6’4” tall but then it morphed into meaning large; being tall was secondary.

Now I hear that most of my family is shedding pounds like it’s going out of style which leaves me alone atop “biggin” mountain.  It really was not that much fun up here when I had company, but now that it seems the mountain can only support me I think it is time I headed down too!

Slimming down is a high priority, but honestly it is not the highest.  My main priority is to keep my blood sugar under control, my goal being to no longer have to take oral medication and to NEVER have to take insulin injections.

Blood sugar control and slimming down will go a long way to me becoming a healthier Chris.  One that will be around to enjoy countless years with my wife, Lisa and to watch my daughter Leia grow up.  I don’t want to leave either of them prematurely.

I admit to having the plan to do this January last year and then again as a New Year’s Resolution.  In fact both times I created a blog that was going to be dedicated to my trials and tribulations. Of course each time I started it I did not do a very good job keeping up with posting.  Even worse I did not tell anyone about it so it was hard to have any accountability since no one read what I promised or commented on my progress or failures.

This time around, however, I start here on our family blog.  From this post, you see I have a link to my personal blog where I will update everyone on my progress.  I hope that many of you will follow that link and elect to subscribe to posts from it as well so you can read my true trials and tribulations.

I hope that you will become involved in the posts both positively when things are going well and critically if they are taking a turn for the worse.

So head on over to http://www.ccomfort.com/chris_goal/

Love,

Chris

  1. Chris, we support you in every way and know that if you commit, you’ll succeed. Here is my advice, P90X, it is the most intense workout ever, but it will quickly get your body into a new direction. This is how I left biggon mountain, and will hopefully stay in the valley 4ever. Take care, good luck, love, the Hollywood Huckesteins…

  2. Chris,
As a father, you know I am proud of your accomplishments in life. To add this to your long list would be the crowning jewel You now have a good reason to start on this long journey. Lisa and Leia deserve the man in their life to be there for a long time and this is the first step towards that goal. Controling your diabetes will help you reach that goal. It is a life long problem and the sooner you get it under control the better for the whole Comfort family. You know Mom and I will support you every step of the way. We wish you good luck.
    Love, Mom and Dad
