SwimLessons

Leia and Ivy both went to swim lessons this year. We did a semi-private with them but since they were so far apart on their skill sets mommy or daddy got in each lesson as well to work with one of the while the swim coach worked with the other. The girls got to choose who worked with who first and never seemed to argue over it. This year our swim teacher’s name was Miss Bonnie who happened to be a old gymnastic coach’s sister (small world). Both the girls did extremely well and seem to be little mermaids in the water. 🙂

Ivy has NO fear of the water. However, she has not mastered is breathing when she swims. She will hold her breath even when she pops her head up for air. She does not enjoy floating on her back but she stayed on her back for 16 seconds today. At Mimi’s pool she will jump in off the diving board and slide without any flotation devices, someone just has to be there for her to grab onto, get a breath then she swims off.

Leia is comfortable in the water and getting to be a strong swimmer. She has mastered floating on her back and seems to prefer it at times. She tells her she floats to take a break when she is swimming; smart girl. Today is the first time she got a ring from the shallow without any help and is excited to try it at Mimi’s pool soon. She swims all around with her cousin Sara at Mimi’s and will jump off the diving board by herself, hopefully by the end of the summer she will be diving too.
